Whole Body Cryotherapy

Initially used for the treatment of arthritis, cryotherapy has been established through decades of studies as a powerful treatment for auto-immune disorders. More recently, it has become popular as a means of athletic recovery and increasing physical performance. It is not a medical procedure, but a non-invasive alternative for individuals seeking faster recovery and improved overall health.

Cryotherapy is the body’s exposure to subzero temperatures used to promote a natural anti-inflammatory response providing relief from aches and pains. It accelerates the production of collagen that not only improves skin elasticity but is the number one protein the body uses to repair all muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. Additionally, cryotherapy triggers a release of endorphins, boosts the body’s metabolic rate and can improve sleep.

Benefits of a
whole body cryotherapy

DECREASE PAIN & INFLAMMATION

The body’s natural fight-or-flight response to the extreme cold helps alleviate excess white blood cells that cause the pain from inflammation and other toxins while supercharging the blood with oxygen and anti-inflammatory proteins.

INCREASE METABOLISM

The body undergoes a metabolic reaction in an effort to warm itself, burning fat and calories in the five hours, post-session. Repeated (regular) whole body cryotherapy stimulates metabolism and decreases water retention (swelling) 24/7.

IMPROVE ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

Whole Body Cryotherapy helps flush lactic acid from the body and increases collagen production, helping heal muscles, ligaments and tendons–decreasing recovery time for all levels of athletes.

STIMULATE COLLAGEN PRODUCTION

Collagen is the number one protein the body produces to repair muscles, ligaments, tendons, and SKIN. We stop producing collagen at a normal rate at age 30. WBC naturally stimulates our bodies collagen production to counter the aging process, healing tissues and tightening skin.

BOOST ENDORPHINS

Exposure to cold temperatures triggers the body’s production of endorphins, boosting your mood. You feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle your day, alleviating feelings of anxiety and depression.

IMPROVE SLEEP

Exposure to the extreme cold temps stimulates the body’s production of hormones that are directly related to sleep and relaxation. These endorphins act as a mild sedative, helping you feel relaxed and sleep deeper. Also, by decreasing pain & inflammation, your body naturally sleeps more restfully.

FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DO I WEAR

The Cryo Wellness Spa provides every client with a robe, socks, slippers, and gloves for the purpose of protecting your extremities during treatment. Men are required to wear their own underwear or shorts. All clients must remove jewelry and exterior body piercings below the neck. Additionally, clients should not apply oils, lotions, or cologne prior to treatment.

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?

A WBC treatment is two to three minutes in duration; however, you may end the session at any time.

HOW COLD DOES IT GET?

The Cryosauna reaches temperatures between -225F and -250F, lowering the skin’s surface temperature by 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO CRYOTHERAPY?

The peak benefits of WBC are best enjoyed as a result of a regular routine. While clients may experience benefits from a single treatment, we recommend doing WBC three to five times a week for the first two weeks. This will induce cumulative effects in the body. After that, maintenance as needed to sustain benefits.

HOW DOES CRYOTHERAPY COMPARE TO AN ICE BATH?

The benefits of a three-minute WBC treatment are equivalent to that of a twenty to thirty-minute ice bath. Unlike an ice bath, there is no downtime to cryotherapy.

WHY ISN'T THERE ANY DOWNTIME TO WHOLE-BODY-CRYOTHERAPY?

There is no downtime because WBC does not cool the temperature of the body’s muscle tissue. Thus, allowing your body to achieve optimal results while warming up at a quicker rate.

WHO SHOULD AVOID CRYOTHERAPY?

The following conditions are contraindications to WBC: • Pregnancy • Heart Disease • High Blood Pressure >150 not controlled by medication • Cold-Activated Asthma • Severe Raynaud’s Syndrome Children under 18 must have written consent and a guardian present. Clients with severe medical conditions not listed above should get doctor’s consent before doing WBC.

IS WHOLE-BODY-CRYOTHERAPY COMFORTABLE?

Yes. Cryotherapy involves dry, hyper-cooled air flowing over the skin’s surface, so the process never freezes skin tissues, muscles or organs. The result is only a “feeling” of being cold. Towards the end of the treatment, you may get a “pins and needles” sensation like it is falling asleep which will dissipate as soon as the treatment ends.

WHAT IF I AM OFTEN COLD OR GET COLD EASILY?

Cryotherapy is a dry cold with no moisture and tolerable even to those who consider themselves cold intolerant. Cryotherapy improves circulation throughout the body and stimulates production of brown fat, so your future ability to tolerate cold should improve.

CAN I CATCH COLD WITH WHOLE-BODY-CRYOTHERAPY?

No. The immediate cold impact of cryotherapy will raise the internal body temperature for a short period of time. The stimulation of the immune system can help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds.

I'M CLAUSTROPHOBIC. CAN I USE WHOLE-BODY-CRYOTHERAPY?

Yes. Your entire head remains exposed above the Cryosauna during your session. The door does not lock, and a staff member is there through the entire process until your session ends.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE A SHOWER BEFORE OR AFTER A SESSION?

Showering is not necessary before or after cryotherapy. The entire procedure is dry and does not make your skin wet. Many clients come by during their lunch break since the entire treatment is only 3 minutes long.

IS NITROGEN GAS DANGEROUS?

No, nitrogen is a friendly, non-toxic gas. Nitrogen composes 78% of the air we breathe. The other components are 16% Oxygen, 1% Hydrogen and 5% other gases. Nitrogen is as common as Oxygen.
